The Bloody Mary is a hot cocktail made of tomato juice, lemon juice, vodka, spices and chili pepper (Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce).
According to history, the cocktail has been invented in 1921 in Paris by a barman Fernand Petiot before being famous in USA.
Why is it called Bloody Mary ?
Despite my extensive research I couldn’t find the true story of Bloody Mary, but a lot of different versions, I let you choose your favourite :
- The queen of England, Marie Tudor, was giver the nickname Bloody Mary because she was known as cruel and sanguinary between 1553 and 1558.
- Ernest Hemingway would have asked a Parisian barman to prepare him a cocktail with alcohol that did not smell alcohol so that his wife could not know he had drunk (and therefore could not reprimand him)
- Bloody Mary would be a ghost which appears bloodstained in your bathroom mirror after saying her name 3 times. Do not look at her in the eyes !!!! I could happen something to you…
Personally, my favourite story is Hemingway’s one.
So, what do you need to prepare a home-made Bloody Mary?
Ingredients :

- 0,5 cl of Worcestershire sauce
